Gesche Thoennes, Eva Poloniova Painting, Poker Champ & Independence Day!!

Gesche Thoennes

Gesche Thoennes
A while ago I met a model called Gesche Thoennes (pronounced Gei-Sha) while out partying. We met randomly after the oddest of first conversations. This is Gesche’s story of how we met...or at least this is how she tells EVERYONE when people ask how we know each other.

The scene is out partying one night. I went up to her and said…

Albie: "You're a proper red head!?
Gesche: "Yeah..."
Albie: "And you've got pale skin!?"
Gesche: "Yeah...?"
Albie: "Cool. Don't change EVER. I love it."
Gesche: "Okay............................."

Gesche Thoennes and I hanging out

She must've thought I was a proper weirdo. Admittedly I hear it all too often that I am weird but all good as we became cool little friends anyway. She went to Germany (she’s German) soon after we met but kept in touch and she is now back in London for a long while working as a full time model. We've been hanging out lots and I even went to watch the football with her when Germany played.

I don't like football and almost fell asleep in the pub during the semi-finals with Germany vs. Turkey. What kept me awake was seeing Gesche smile the cutest smile of pride for her country during the whole match. Especially when they won, she had the coolest grin the whole night.

However, when we watched the finals and Germany took some lickings from Spain her face wasn't so smiley. We were at the The Greyhound pub in High Street Kensington where tons of Spanish supporters cheered deafeningly after they won and Gesche just sat still gutted. Still looked so so beautiful even when pissed off...

Eva Poloniova Painting!

Eva Polonovia. Painting by Albie Espinola

I painted another model from the Marithe & Francois Girbaud show during Paris Fashion Week. This painting is of Czech model Eva Poloniova. It was one of those paintings where it just flowed and only took me a day to paint. It's a nice sized painting being 20 inches by 30 inches.

A few facts on Eva Poloniova:

First Name: Eva

Last Name: Poloniova

Nationality: Czech

Date of Birth: 1989

Height: 6' 0"

Hair Colour: Brown

Eye Colour: Green

During Autumn/Winter 08/09 shows in NYC, London, Milan and Paris, Eva modelled in 5 shows.

Here is the video of the Eva Poloniova painting.

Poker Gangsta
Every Thursday my little brother Jesse attends a weekly poker game at Riley’s Snooker Hall in Shepherds Bush. He is doing his Masters in Social Research with his final project about Poker. It could be a really expensive project if he lost games but he's good so is actually making money from the project!

Anyways, to enter is only £10 and there are usually about 25 people with the last 3 people getting money. In each Thursday of June, my brother has placed in the last 3 getting first, second and third place finishes. Last week he attempted to make it 4 weeks in a row with this time me going along.

I pretty much stopped playing poker a year ago because I'm so cack but I thought, "I might as well" seeing my brother was doing well. The days leading up to the tournament, Jesse coached me telling me what to do at every stage, how to think, how to read people, how to not let them read me. I would listen and somehow it all stayed inside my head. I also watched tons of Derren Brown! The Derren-Jesse combination rocked!

The result: I walked through everyone and won first place! I played extremely tight at first whilst keeping my mouth shut concentrating on what everyone else was doing. I had a headphone in my right ear listening to music whilst keeping my left ear listening on everything going on around me. Jesse got sparked 7th place but although he didn't place in the top 3, at least one Espinola placed...and FIRST no less! Gangsta tis the Espinola fam.

I'm going to be there this Thursday to defend “my title” if anyone is up for it!? Let me know...it’s well fun.

This Friday, Paper Club (68 Regent Street) is doing something big for the 4th July American Independence Day Celebrations. Paper will not tell me what exactly is happening but it is supposed to be huge...like someone proper major performing or something. Sucks they're keeping it hush. Anyways, 9pm for pizza, burgers and course drinks on moi so come down…before we move on to our table on the dance floor.

Or come rock it on Saturday night...going to the Regatta during the day if anyone is up for that!?

xx

Albie!!
